Society as a whole seems to be breaking down in more ways than one. You never know what to expect when you get up each morning. It is sad that social issues seem to tear the country apart, but yet they do. Whether you are looking at gay marriage, abortion or environmental issues, it seems people disagree more than they agree now. Although civility does still exist in this world, we seem to hear about it less and less.

When you look at social issues affecting the world, London is a good place to start. Riots have broken out in this city recently and the divide between people is clearly seen in videos coming out of those events. A group of people walk up to a young man who has been injured. It appears the goal is to help him. In fact, the young man is robbed by one of his rescuers. How can people do this when someone is hurting and in need of assistance?

Here in America, a fight is going on over unions and their role in society. This has become one of the big social issues that divide the country. Should Boeing be allowed to build a plant in any state or are they limited to states that do not support the right to work? Can a state be forced into bankruptcy in order to meet union obligations? Sadly, we see Chrysler workers getting high and drunk while on the job and yet the unions do not want them fired. This needs to change if America is to remain the great place it is. Common sense needs to prevail in situations like this as the workers who participate in these activities are putting not only themselves at risk, but fellow workers also.

Bailouts are another of the hot social issues at the moment. As you can see by looking at the votes on many bailout programs, politicians seem to vote along party lines. This leads to a breakdown of the entire system. If a Democrat president supports a program, Republicans feel they must oppose it and the same is true in reverse. When are we going to work for the best of the country rather than political aspirations? Social issues are going to continue to be a hot topic during the upcoming presidential race and average citizens need to look more closely and examine their personal beliefs rather than what their party believes. Otherwise countries around the globe will fail.
